INTech augmented and virtual reality camp

OLL will be partnering with the INTech Foundation for a fall camp focusing on making music with augmented and virtual reality technology. This program will be brought to girls and LGBTQ+ youth ages 10-13 at Maryhurst. The camp will be held November 13-17 from 4pm-6pm. Please check back on Monday, September 18th for an application.

Hall of Fame Project

In the spring of 2019, Out Loud Louisville (known as Girls Rock Louisville at this time) held a six-week program in partnership with KMAC for youth ages 13-18 who had previously attended a program and were interested in both visual art and music. Together, local mentors, artists and former ampers developed a critical and aesthetic understanding of the contributions of women and non-binary artists in music history. Mentors and GRL participants adopted a spirit-centered view of rock and roll over style or genre, concentrating on rock and roll as a way to forge their own non-conforming path in music.

The Hall of Fame experience was broken into three parts: critical history, exploratory learning, and art-making.

Participants traveled to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, to gather inspiration to honor their chosen women/non-binary musicians. Youth explored fashion, musician identity, props, and the layout and creation of the installations themselves. Working with artist mentors Jordan Lanham, Joyce Barbour, and Alex Kandel, participants collaboratively critiqued their work in the creation of installments. The goal of the exhibition was to expand our community’s understanding of the formative roles women and non-binary musicians have played in our musical landscape. It was also a reflection of how these young artists have come to see themselves in music history, and how they will choose to rewrite it.

After School Programs

After school programs provide an opportunity for participants to attend instrument lessons, form a band, attend specialized workshops, collaboratively write an original song, and perform with their band at a live showcase in a similar manner to OLL summer camp, but in a smaller group with sessions spread out over a longer period of time. In 2018 we partnered with both Jefferson County Public Schools, the Louisville Free Public Libraries, and the Boys and Girls Club of Kentuckiana. In 2019, we formed additional partnerships at Maryhurst and La Casita Center.
